Students have as much time as they need to take the assessment, but we do schedule a for all students to take the assessment.  If extra time is needed, we make appropriate accommodation for this to happen.  This schedule is at the bottom of this page.

Test Prep: Tips for Parents

It is that time of year again: PSSA Testing weeks! There are many things we can do to provide support and create a positive test-taking experience for our children:

It is essential that students are rested and well fed before taking any test.  Many students need to have this structured for them.  If we leave the essentials up to them, they may be neglected.  Hunger can detract from a good test performance.

Make sure that your child is in school during testing weeks.  Do not plan any doctor or dental appointments on test dates.

Encourage your child to listen carefully to all test-taking directions given by the teacher and to ask questions about any directions that are unclear.

Encourage your child to take deep breaths when they become nervous or stressed.  Talk to him or her about the power in thinking positively.

Be your child’s cheerleader!  Children get things from their parents - one is a sense of confidence.  It’s crucial that you communicate to your child that you believe in them.  Let them know that they have many strengths and weaknesses but when it comes to taking a test, the best thing they can do is to try their hardest and that is the most they can do.
