TECHNOLOGY

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLEASE ENSURE GOOD TYPING SKILLS OUTSIDE OF MY CLASSROOM BY ENCOURAGING:

1. ALL 8 FINGERS ON THE KEYBOARD, ON HOME ROW (ASDF-left hand fingers & JKL;-right hand fingers)!

2. EYES LOOKING UP, NOT DOWN AT KEYBOARD!

3. SITTING UP STRAIGHT, FEET FLAT ON THE FLOOR!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE...ANY SKILL REQUIRES LOTS OF PRACTICE :-)

I will be teaching six rotations of "Technology" throughout the year to all students at Williamsport Area Middle School. Each student, therefore, will have "Technology" at some point during the school year. These rotations will average 29 days.

7th grade will learn how to "touch type" the alphabetic characters of the keyboard. During our short time together, students will try to master the major rules of "touch typing" that are listed above! Each student will take timed typing tests throughout to track the progress of their WPM (words per minute) which measures speed and accuracy. Any extra time we might have will be used for mini computer application projects.

8th grade will focus on career exploration. Students will take interest inventories to see what career areas might best suit them. Information found during career research will be used to complete mini computer application projects. In addition, I will share the career pathways that are available at our high school for students to begin thinking about which pathway they'd like to pursue during their freshman year at Williamsport Area High School. If time permits, we will explore budgeting options given the average salary of their career choices in relation to lifestyle choices (housing, transportation, food, entertainment, etc.).
