Lycoming Valley PTO values Parent involvement! Our To develop a strong bond between educators and parents that will ensure every child the highest advantage of mental, physical, and social education. This organization shall be non-profit, nonsectarian, and nonpartisan. Our Goals In addition to assisting with funding for the Montour Preserve field trip, providing for an end of the year party for departing eight graders, and supporting school initiatives, our goal as a PTO is to help families develop a connection with the school community, to keep you informed and bring you “into the loop”. We do this by: q Providing PTO meetings four times a year (meeting dates for 2007 school year will be the third Tuesday of the month: September 18th, November 20th, January 15th, and April 15th). Meetings are held at o Meet our Principal and Assistant Principal, who present us with updates regarding education, school events, and highlights. They are available to answer questions or set up a future meeting if needed. o Meet other parents o Alert you to volunteer opportunities. q Encouraging you to read the “ECHO” our school’s monthly newsletter. Our PTO section provides monthly updates and the calendar highlights activities at the school, as well as extracurricular events. Again we encourage family attendance at school sponsored activities and events! q Providing you with this Web site along with monthly highlights. *Click on Monthly Highlights in the left hand border for information pertaining to the current month. q Provide you with Volunteer opportunities and ways to increase your involvement in our school and organization: (Bookfair volunteers, Membership drive workers, Bakers, Hospitality Committee who coordinate and serve refreshments at various school events, Chaperones & Ushers as needed, distributing PSSA snacks before school, serving as a PTO officer/chairman). WHAT WE DO: We sponsor activities that promote a bond between parent and educators: q Purchase staff appreciation and retirement gifts q Fund a Sunshine account for special needs or recognition that may arise q Provide refreshments for visitations,receptions and school events. q Annually purchase a book for “school board appreciation” q Provide books from our bookfair to be used as student incentives q Provide volunteer ushers at the Faculty spaghetti dinner Sponsor activities to promote our students physically, mentally, and socially: q We host a Fall and Spring Bookfair which provides students with affordable literature. Our spring bookfair (BOGO) allows each student who purchases a book to receive a second of equal or lesser value free from the PTO. q We provide a WAHS Graduation Award to a graduating senior who attended q Plan, fund and host the annual 8th grade Party/social q Help fund the annual 8th grade educational trip to Montour Preserve q Provide Chaperones for school dances as needed HOW WE FUND WHAT WE DO: We depend on our membership drive to fund the majority of our activities. This is why YOUR MEMBERSHIP is so IMPORTANT! q Our Membership Drive runs the first full week in Sept. (9/4-9/7 in 2007) and at our Teacher visitation on September 6th . Memberships cost $5.00 per individual ($10.00 per family would be wonderful!) q PTO Bake sale/Dessert Table held in conjunction with the Faculty Spaghetti Dinner & Talent Show in February.
